No Dallas Mavericks fan will ever forget 2006, when the Mavs reached their first NBA Finals. While it was certainly a year for the records was that the third year in which the Mavs had reached the Conference Finals. Franchise History: Early struggles (1980-82)

Dallas, Texas, was discovered in 1979.
At the 1980 NBA All-Star Game, league owners voted to incorporate the new team. The team name came from the 1957-1962 TV western Mavericks. To a power of the first (1982-85), the Mavericks were serious competition for the first time in 1982-83. In the All-Star break, they were 25-24 and had won 12 of their last 15 games. The Mavs' 38-44 record marked a 10-game improvement over the previous season, and the fact that in the third year expansion team had even in playoff contention here was all quite remarkable.

A true fighter (1985-87)
Dallas had the eighth pick in the 1985 NBA Draft and drafted German-born forward Detlef Schrempf from Washington. 2006 NBA Finals
